America Saves Homeownership
Advisory Committee

Representatives from the 14 pro-housing groups listed below advise the homeownership initiatives within America Saves.

Center for Community Change
Center for Community Change came out of the anti-poverty movement and programs in the 1960s. CCC was founded in Washington, D.C. with support from progressive politicians, organizers and funders. The mission of the Center for Community Change is to develop the power and capacity of low-income people, especially low-income people of color, to improve their communities and shape the public policies that affect their lives.

Co-op Housing Coalition
The Cooperative Housing Coalition brings together organizations interested in housing cooperatives in order to positively impact public policy, through interaction with Congress and government agencies, for the purpose of maintaining and enhancing the environment for existing and new housing cooperatives. They provide information on their website (www.chc.coop) about creating and sustaining homeownership through housing cooperatives.

Consumer Federation of America
The Consumer Federation of America CFA is a non-profit association of 300 pro-consumer groups that was founded in 1968 to advance the consumer interest through research, education, and advocacy.

The Enterprise Foundation
The Enterprise Foundation and its 2,400 Network members work together to provide low-income people with affordable housing, safer streets and access to jobs and childcare. Network members are nonprofit, community-based organizations, public housing authorities and Native American Tribes from around the country creating powerful partnerships to rebuild communities and empower people in neighborhoods nationwide.

Fannie Mae
Fannie Mae is a private, shareholder-owned company that works to make sure mortgage money is available for people in communities all across America. Fannie Mae does not lend money directly to homebuyers. Instead, it works with lenders to make sure they don't run out of mortgage funds, so more people can achieve the dream of homeownership.

Freddie Mac
Freddie Mac is a shareholder-owned corporation whose people are dedicated to improving the quality of life by making the American dream of decent, accessible housing a reality. We accomplish this mission by linking Main Street to Wall Street -- purchasing, scrutinizing and investing in home mortgages, and ultimately providing homeowners and renters with lower housing costs and better access to home financing.

Housing Assistance Council
A national nonprofit corporation headquartered in Washington, DC, and founded in 1971, the Housing Assistance Council helps local organizations build affordable homes in rural America by providing below-market financing, technical assistance, research, training, and information services. HAC is an equal opportunity lender.

Housing Partnership Network
Founded in 1990, the Housing Partnership Network is a membership organization of 77 regional non-profits that develop and preserve housing and create economic opportunity for low- and moderate-income families. The Network's core strategy is to add value to our members by facilitating peer-to-peer learning and sponsoring initiatives that require national scale and inter-regional cooperation. All of our undertakings are designed with active involvement of the members, whose experience reflects local concerns and community needs.

National Community Reinvestment Coalition
The National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC) is the nation's trade association for economic justice whose 600+ members consist of local community based organizations. Since its inception in 1990, NCRC has spearheaded the economic justice movement. NCRC's mission is to build wealth in traditionally underserved communities and bring low- and moderate-income populations across the country into the financial mainstream.

National Congress for Community Economic Development
The National Congress for Community Economic Development (NCCED) is the national trade association for community development corporations (CDCs). NCCED represents the over 3,000 CDCs that exist throughout the country. CDCs are non-profit community-based organizations that produce housing and jobs in low- and moderate-income communities.

National Council of La Raza 
The National Council of La Raza (NCLR) is a private, nonprofit, nonpartisan, tax-exempt organization established in 1968 to reduce poverty and discrimination, and improve life opportunities for Hispanic Americans. NCLR has chosen to work toward this goal through two primary, complementary approaches: capacity-building assistance to support and strengthen Hispanic community-based organizations; and applied research, policy analysis, and advocacy.

National Council of State Housing Agencies 
The nation's state Housing Finance Agencies (HFAs) created the National Council of State Housing Agencies as a nonprofit organization nearly 30 years ago to coordinate and leverage their federal advocacy efforts for affordable housing. NCSHA's members are the HFAs of every state and over 350 affiliate member companies that work in the affordable housing field. NCSHA represents its members in Washington before Congress, the Administration, and several federal agencies concerned with housing, such as HUD and the Treasury Department, and with other advocates for affordable housing.

Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation
Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation is a national nonprofit organization created by Congress to provide financial support, technical assistance, and training for community-based revitalization efforts. Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation, over 230 local NeighborWorks, organizations and the specialized secondary market Neighborhood Housing Services of America make up the NeighborWorks system, which has successfully built healthy communities for 25 years.

Self-Help
Self-Help is the nation's largest nonprofit community development lender, creating and protecting ownership opportunities for low-wealth families through home and small business ownership. Self-Help has provided over $2.5 billion in financing to help more than 30,000 low-wealth borrowers buy homes, build businesses, and strengthen their communities.
